Tickets to the 2014 LobsterFest, Grove Rotary’s annual fundraiser benefiting the local community, are now on sale on-line at www.grovelobsterfest.com and at area banks.
Ticket sales for the popular benefit are capped at 500, so people planning to attend should get their tickets early, said Gary Daniels, LobsterFest Chair. Tickets are $70 each, with proceeds going to support various local charitable and community organizations.
LobsterFest will be held on Friday, June 20, in the Grove Civic Center. The evening will begin with a silent auction and social starting at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and a live auction at 7:30 p.m.
The event’s menu will feature live lobsters flown in from Maine and cooked on-site, as well as clams and corn on the cob. As an alternative, attendees may choose a steak dinner. Also available will be coleslaw, bread, dessert, beer, wine and coffee. Rotarians will prepare the lobster and steak meals, which will be served by volunteers from the community.
The major beneficiary of the LobsterFest fundraiser is the community, Daniels noted.
“The whole point of LobsterFest is to support our local organizations, which do so much to improve the quality of life in this area. They run the gamut from the Community Crisis Center to the Humane Society to children’s advocates,” Daniels said.
In September 2013, Rotary presented checks totaling $43,000 to support projects by 20 service organizations, utilizing funds from LobsterFest and other club fundraisers. A second round of grants totaling $18,600 is scheduled in May.
Examples of beneficiaries this past year include the JAKES event, organized by the Grand Gobblers chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation for young people to learn about nature, wildlife and habitat conservation. Another grant went to the Grove Community Playmakers, the local community theater organization, to support a Comprehensive Youth Theatre Program.
Grants also were awarded to the Delaware County Court Appointed Special Advocates Network, Backpack Program, Grand Lake Shrine Club, House of Hope, Santa’s Old Broads, Lendonwood Gardens, Grove High School Band, Grand Lake YMCA, Har-Ber Village, Bridges of Hope, among many others.
Grove Rotary, with more than 170 members, is committed to responding to community needs, consistent with the club’s motto of “Service Above Self.” Rotarians develop service projects that address critical issues, such as children at risk, disabled individuals, health care, poverty and hunger, clean water, polio eradication, literacy and numeracy.
Rotary also supports programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers and other professionals, as well as vocational and career development.
