MWR Ad 4_20_11.inddPicture in Scripture Amphitheater, nestled in the hills above Grand Lake about four miles east of Disney, celebrates its 27th season this summer. The amphitheater will be open June 20-28 and July 18-26 on Friday and Saturday nights, according to Linda Goldner, co-founder of the theater.

The amphitheater is recognized as the area’s top attraction, according to Goldner. She and husband Bill opened the Theater in 1985 with the production The Man Who Ran. “More than 200,000 visitors representing all 50 states and 118 foreign countries have attended the shows”, Goldner said.

The award-winning biblical drama portrays the story of Jonah, Jesus and the great fish— with a cast of 60 actors, exotic live animals, stunning special effects, exciting pyrotechnics and state-of-the-art surround sound.

“The inspiration to build the amphitheater came from the Lord with the script of The Man Who Ran,” said Linda. “Not only was my husband the playwright and the 1000-seat amphitheater designer and builder, but he also has played the part of Jonah for 20 seasons. The other four seasons, he played Elijah in The Elijah Factor, a play I wrote.”

An evening at the amphitheater begins with dinner on the patio with a choice of charbroiled hamburgers, grilled chicken, barbeque or Grand Lake’s best catfish. A musical preshow begins at 8 p.m. with featured performers Greg Winn, Terrel and Beverly Glaze, Becky Wright and Danette Dillion.

“At sunset the curtain rises on a spectacular production under the grand Oklahoma stars,” Goldner said.
