Tad Jones, executive director of the 55 year old Grand Lake Association for the last 3 years, resigned last week to accept a job as director of the Will Rogers Memorial in Claremore, Jone’s home town.
Art Box, co-owmer with his wife June of Pine Lodge, expressed regrets of Jones departure. Jones had high praise for the Grand Lake community, and said he has enjoyed his work here, but looks forward to moving back to Claremore.
Jones, who has led the GLA into a massive efforts to build fishing tournaments for Grand Lake, remarked that although they only lost $15,000 on the latest Bass Tourney, there are ways to cut back expenses to break even next year if the GLA Board wishes to continue.
The GLA’s funding comes from membership dues and fees, and $85,000 from OK State Tourism matching funds.
Although the GLA increased matching funds this year, the GLA has abandoned the co-op advertising efforts of past years, where there is great opportunity to increase State funding matches.
After $28,000 cut from City of Grove for promo efforts, the GLA board at their last meeting decided to reprogram their efforts to include Co-op advertising efforts.
