Grove music icon Jana Jae will headline a public string quartet concert in Lendonwood Gardens on Sunday, October 11, at 2 p.m., as a fundraiser for the Gardens. Admission is free, but Jae invites those attending to make a donation at the gates to support the botanical garden.
Dubbed “From Bach to Bluegrass,” the outdoor concert also will feature vocalist Ron Young of Grove and “some possible surprise artists,” Jae said.
Acclaimed musician Jana Jae will perform in a string-quartet concert at Lendonwood Gardens on Sunday, October 11, at 2 p.m. as a benefit for the botanical garden. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted at the gates. The outdoor concert, “From Bach to Bluegrass,” will feature both classical and bluegrass numbers as well as songs by vocalist Ron Young of Grove.
Some seating will be available, although concert-goers are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs to enjoy the music in maximum comfort. Refreshments of lemonade and cookies will be provided by Lendonwood and Grand Wood Assisted Living of Grove.
Jana Jae will be joined in the concert by three classically trained musicians from California: second violinist Tim Kraus of Berkeley; violist Sherry Hanson of Fortuna; and cellist Julie Crabill of Redding. Jae has performed with the group for several years.
“We are planning a little Bach, a little Brahms, Debussy and bluegrass,” Jae said. “It will be very simple and informal, in keeping with the natural surroundings of Lendonwood Gardens.” The program also will include some pieces she has arranged.
Jae said she is “delighted to bring music to Lendonwood, one of our area’s beautiful treasures.” She said she enjoys visiting the Gardens and often recommends it as a local attraction to her guests.
Jae’s visiting artists from California have performed with various symphonies, such as the North State Symphony of California, and present chamber music concerts in that area. During their time at Grand Lake, they will visit several local attractions such as Lendonwood, Har-Ber Village, Grand Lake, and Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa.
“We will be doing a lot of sightseeing, along with the concert at Lendonwood. We look forward to this special experience,” Jae said.
Lendonwood Gardens is a botanical garden supported by volunteer labor, memberships and contributions. The Gardens are open to the public year-round, from dawn to dusk. Botanical highlights include large collections of azaleas, rhododendrons, daylilies, hostas, peonies, Japanese maples, dogwoods, and many other plants and trees.
