Safety Milestone: With over 1,200 miles of high voltage electric lines, hundreds of substations and thousands of other related components to keep the power flowing to customers, the Grand River Dam Authority’s energy delivery system is a sophisticated network. However, despite all that equipment and all the ground it covers, the system owes its reliability to the GRDA employees who design, operate and maintain it.

That includes a large segment of the GRDA workforce, stationed at both the Transmission Headquarters near Pryor and the Engineering and Technology Center in Tulsa. These are the employees that design and work on the lines and related equipment, inside the substations, control houses and along the rights of way. Many spend their days making sure relay equipment, meters, bucket trucks and other important power components are in working order. While their jobs are not always easy nor always performed under the best of conditions, they consistently get the job done. More importantly, they get it done safely.

In mid-February, GRDA had the opportunity to recognize their impressive safety milestone which included the GRDA Transmission Department recently achieving over 365 days without reporting any lost time injuries. Meanwhile, GRDA Metering and Engineering Departments come in at over 6,000 days each, while the GRDA Relay Department has recorded over 12,000 days.
Safety-conscious employees can enhance reliable operations, which in turn lead to the reliable delivery of electricity to thousands of Oklahomans. That has been the Authority’s business for over 75 years, and we are proud of the Team GRDA members who make it happen every day, round-the-clock.

Headquartered in Vinita, GRDA is Oklahoma’s state-owned electric utility; fully funded by revenues from electric and water sales instead of taxes. Each day, GRDA strives to be an “Oklahoma agency of excellence” by focusing on the 5 E’s: electricity, economic development, environmental stewardship, employees and efficiency.
