Shoot for the Cure_WEBSITEMiami, Oklahoma – Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014 – The Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) women’s basketball team will face the Lady Mountaineers from Eastern State on Monday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. The theme of this year’s “Pink” game, which honors those who are fighting or have survived breast cancer, is “Keep Calm, and Shoot for the Cure.”

The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with the Lady Norse basketball game. There will be several events throughout the night to raise money for NEO students who do not have insurance but would benefit from mammograms or early cancer screening.

  • Pink t-shirts with this year’s theme, “Keep Calm, and Shoot for the Cure,” will be available for $5.
  • Pink cupcakes donated by Sodexo Food Services will be on sale for $5. For every cupcake purchased there will be a chance to win a pink Pandora Bracelet with the breast cancer ribbon charm. Goforth Jewelry in Miami, Okla. has generously donated the Pandora bracelet and charm.
  • A pink basketball autographed by all NEO basketball players, both men’s and women’s teams, will be auctioned off at halftime of the Golden Norse game. The Golden Norse game will begin at 8 p.m.
  • The annual Bras For A Cause decorating contest will be going on in the lobby of the gym where people are invited to vote for their favorite bras by contributing to the donation jars next to each entry.  Last year this event raised more than $600, and NEO’s Center for Academic Success and Advisement claimed the trophy. This year more than 10 local businesses will submit entries, as well as several departments and student organizations on the NEO campus.

“Breast cancer is a horrible disease that affects so many women. It does not discriminate nor play favorites,” said Jim Rowland, head coach for the Lady Norse. “This is a very special event, and we feel privileged to be able to donate this game to help raise awareness. I would like to personally invite everyone to come out and help support this cause.”

Official sponsors for the event include Freeman Health Care Systems and Integris Baptist Regional.

Pink pompoms, leis, and glow in the dark necklaces will be handed out to help decorate the stands. Everyone is encouraged to wear pink to the game, buy a cupcake, vote for their favorite bra, and have a great time.
