The 17th Annual National Rod and Custom Car Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

Moonbird3535The 17th Annual National Rod and Custom Car Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony was held at 6 pm on Friday February 14th in conjunction with the 50th Annual Darryl Starbird’s Rod and Custom Car show in Tulsa, OK.   This years Inductees were Harold Murphy of Loxahatchee, FL that has built many outstanding customs and street rods and Pat Keating of Books, KY who has to his credit many Vibrasonicoutstanding customs and street rods.  The Designer/Artist Hall of Fame inducted Herb Martinez   for his design and artistic ability an icon from California.  Lifetime Achievement award went to the much deserving Bob Larivee out of Detroit, MI. who has definitely contributed a lifetime to the Rod and Custom World.   Dave Shuten from California who has built many customs and creative cars was made Builder/Owner of the year.  Two new awards were presented this year and one was WOW 006given to Tom Vogele, editor of NSRA’s Street Scene as Auto Journalist/Photographer and another for Car Collector went to Beau Boeckmann of Galpin Motors in California.

The Hall of Fame Museum is located on the shores of Grand Lake O’ the Cherokee (55251 E Highway 85A- 60 miles northeast of Tulsa just off famous Route 66) and holds over 50 cars all one of a kind, hand built by the icons in the custom world, such as Barris, Bailon, Winfield, Titus, Roth, Hines, and includes 25 of Starbird’s own collection built over the past 50 years.

Harold MurphyThe museum will open its doors for the 19th Season on March 15th.    One of the feature cars this year is  “Moonbird” by Darryl Starbird a bubble-topped 1957 Cadillac Brougham completely redesigned and constructed all metal creation.   We also will feature four cars designed and built by the late Elden Titus including his latest “Vibrasonic”.  And we are fortunate to have this year from our most resent inductee Harold Murphy his restyled beautiful custom truck.
