The Thunder on Wolf Creek, National Hydroplane Race, sponsored by the Grand Lake Casino, is coming to Wolf Creek Park in Grove on June 20th – 22nd and admission is FREE. This will be the second year for the event and last years event brought in huge crowds and participants from all around the nation.
“We were extremely excited about the attendance and racers that came last year,” said Race Director Leonard Miller. “We think it will be even bigger this year and it will have a larger impact on the community.”
Testing will begin on Friday, June 20th from 12pm – 5pm.
On Saturday, June 21st, there will be a car show from 9am-5pm with awards given away at 4pm. People can register their cars for the show from 7am-12pm for just $10.
Testing for the Hydroplane races Saturday will begin at 9am and there will be an opening ceremony at Noon. The races will begin at 12:30pm and last until 5pm.
There will also be a drawing for a Smart TV at 5pm on Saturday. Must be present to win. Free door prize tickets will be given out by the Boy Scouts from 10am – Noon and donations will be accepted after that for door prize tickets. Food and drinks will also be available and will be provided by the Boy Scouts. At 5:15pm there will be a Boy Scout Card Board Boat Race.
Miss Grand Lake will also be in attendance from Noon-4pm on Saturday.
On Sunday, racing will go from 1pm-5pm and the Boy Scouts will be providing food.
“This is a fun event to watch and we have so much going on all day for the families,” said Rick Miller. “Spectators will get to watch some of the best racing in the country, right here on Grand Lake.”
