Katie DeweyMiami, Okla. – Friday, Jan. 17, 2014 – NEO’s Coordinator of Public Relations and Channel 13 student organization sponsor, Katie Dewey, was recently selected by the Oklahoma College Public Relations Association (OCPRA) to receive the Randy Talley Rising Star Award for demonstrating superior creativity, innovation, advocacy, expertise and integrity.

The award was presented Nov. 20, 2013 during an organization meeting in Oklahoma City. A recipient for the award is selected annually to recognize rising public relations, marketing and communications professionals. Dewey was nominated to receive the award for reviving the local, student-led Channel 13 television station and the mass communications degree program. She was also credited with increasing NEO’s presence in local media outlets and effectively harnessing social media to improve communication with the NEO community.

“Katie is very deserving of the Rising Star award and a very important member of NEO’s leadership team. She is highly respected by her peers and a great role model for many students on campus,” said Dr. Jeff Hale, NEO president.

The Oklahoma College Public Relations Association provides superb networking opportunities for new and seasoned public relations professionals—from both public and private institutions in Oklahoma.

Dewey was also selected by students for the staff award in 2012. Dewey is in her fourth year at NEO and is responsible for writing and editing press releases for the website, developing statements and distributing to media, creating content for college publications, manages three social media pages for the College, and she works with the campus news crew.
