Kathy graduated from NEO with an associate’s degree in 1971, while Dan attended one year. After marrying that same year, the couple transferred to the University of Tulsa (TU) and both received bachelor degrees.
Upon graduating from TU, Dan became the Vocal Music Director at Tulsa Memorial High School and retired as Fine Arts Director in 2004. Active in the community, he has served as a fine arts consultant and recruiter for area school districts, a volunteer reader for elementary schools, and served on the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors.
Kathy spent 30 years as a music specialist in the Tulsa metro area, including the Jenks school system that is nationally known for its outstanding music program. She continues to teach music for TU’s gifted and talented program. In addition to her years of classroom experience, Kathy has held positions as organist and director of children’s ministries at Tulsa’s St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.
Today the couple is on staff at University United Methodist in Tulsa. Dan serves as Director of Music Ministries and Kathy serves as Associate Director.
Expanding and sharing their love of music, The Calls founded Tulsa Repertory Musicals (TRM) in 2003 and serve as producers and directors of the organization. A 501(c)3 organization, TRM was formed to provide Tulsa area organizations with a collection of shows available for fundraising, team building, and special events while emphasizing the education component of musical theatre in a supportive, positive and fun-filled atmosphere.
Through TRM, the couple has produced such musicals as “Forever Plaid,” which has played for several years around the country. They have also produced “Cotton Patch Gospel,” “Frog and Toad,” and many other shows. The productions have appeared in dozens of venues, including Miami’s Coleman Theatre.
“It is an honor to recognize Dan and Kathy Call,” said Jennifer Hessee, executive director of the NEO Development Foundation. “While students at NEO, they made a great contribution to NEO through their involvement with the Fine Arts program. Throughout their career they have touched the lives of countless students with their musical talents.”
The Calls will be formally honored during the Alumni Awards luncheon on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Noon in the Calcagno Family Ballroom. All alumni and friends of the college are invited to attend. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 12 and under. To purchase a ticket or for more information, please contact the NEO Development Foundation office at 918-540-6115.
