Ken Little, the organizer of GLOC Performance Boat Challenge, spoke to the Grand Lake Sail and Power Squadron meeting on January 21 at the Hilltop Restaurant. Ken briefed the meeting with the plans for the 2016 event. This year’s event will be July 7 – 10.
The number of boats was expanded as well as the course has been lengthened. Between 50 and 75 teams are expected this year. Boats up to 50 foot and capable of 200 mph are anticipated. The new “FasTrac” course layout allows the boats to make “double runs” so boats can make runs in each direction with minimum delay. The layout also improves spectator viewing from shore. Shore-side events are also planned.
Last year 143 volunteers and 15 volunteer boats assisted in the Shootout. More are needed this year with the expanded format. For those interested in the event, he advised going to the website for the event schedule and details: glocshootout.com. If you want to volunteer to assist this year, contact Ken at glocshootout@gmail.com
