Grand Lake Extravaganza Starts Next Week April 1
The Grand Lake Extravaganza, the World’s Largest Bass Tagged Event, is just one week away from starting and people are registering from around the country for the April 1st – May 18th event.
“We have had people register from Illinois, Connecticut, Oregon, Florida, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Alabama and Nevada, just to name a few,” said Tad Jones, Executive Director of the Grand Lake Association. “Not to mention all the anglers from around the region that have started to register.”
The Grand Lake Extravaganza will have 500-tagged bass in Grand Lake with each tagged bass worth at least $50 and there are 10 Grand Prize fish worth from $1000 up to $250,000, which is sponsored by the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Tulsa.
“There are some great prizes that are being offered,” said Jones. “We have money, gift certificates, fishing rods, apparel, room nights, golf and many other awards.”
To participate in the Extravaganza you need an Oklahoma Fishing license, be 18 years of age and have registered for a $20 Extravaganza badge. You can register for the event at participating bait and tackle shops around Grand Lake including Grand Lake Sports Center, Littlefield’s in Grove and Monkey Island, Ket-chum Bait and Tackle, the Y store in Jay and the Grand Lake Visitor Center in Grove.
You can also register by going online to www.grandlakeextravaganza.com. If you catch a Grand Prize fish of $10,000 or more, you will be subject to a polygraph test.
“If you are going to throw a hook in the water in Grand Lake during the event, I would encourage everyone to get a badge, you just might catch a tagged bass and a Grand Prize fish,” said Jones.
GRDA has been putting the bass in Grand Lake and if you catch a tagged bass, take a picture of the fish with the tag, a close-up of the tag and then register the tag at the event website. You can cut the tag off the fish and release the fish after you take the pictures. You can also take a tagged bass to a participating marina, Cedar Port, Indian Hills and Tera Miranda.
